Nzinga Capoeira Angola – Atlanta Nucleus
Rooted in the legacy of Nzinga Capoeira Angola, the Atlanta nucleus continues the tradition of Capoeira Angola as a practice of liberation, resistance, and community-building. Connected to the broader Nzinga network, which was founded in 1995 under the guidance of Mestra Janja, our work in Atlanta carries forward the group’s mission of uniting movement, history, and education to strengthen our cultural ties across the African Diaspora.
Our Atlanta group serves as a space for learning, expression, and collective growth, welcoming practitioners of all levels to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of Capoeira Angola. Through regular training sessions, community gatherings, and cultural events, we honor the wisdom of past generations while cultivating a vibrant space for today’s capoeiristas.
As part of Nzinga’s international network, we are committed to the principles of social engagement, academic study, and cultural preservation that have defined the group’s mission for decades. Inspired by the pioneering work of Mestra Janja, Mestra Paulinha, Mestre Poloca, and many others, we see our Atlanta nucleus as a bridge between the deep roots of Bahia and the expanding branches of Capoeira Angola worldwide.
